I really admire the picture of you doing a chin-up. I would love to be able to do them, even just one! How do you begin to get good at pull-ups/chin-ups? I am 49-year-old female and want to be able to do them before I turn 50 in 2 months to show off for my husband who is a retired police officer with a beer gut! Continue reading

ASK A TRAINER: How Hard Should I Work Out While Pregnant?
Dear Fitbabe,
I have a question about working out while pregnant which might be of interest to some other readers as well. Early in my pregnancy, I visited my general practitioner, an older lady, who warned me to cut back on my daily workouts. “Just jog slowly or walk!” she advised, wagging her wizened finger at me. I nodded in agreement but did not comply. Continue reading
ASK A TRAINER: Should I Force Myself to Eat After Working Out?
Dear Fitbabe, I love your posts. I also love intermittent fasting, but I have a problem and hope that you can help me to solve it. I work best with a 9-5 or 11-7 feed and 16 hour fast. I hate eating before bed. I wake up groggy. So this plan works for me. However, I am a professional ballet/modern dancer, and workout with my company for three hours at a time, from 6-9 pm, three days a week. My question is this: if I drink a protein shake prior to my workout, is it ok that I’m not refueling after dancing? Continue reading
ASK A TRAINER: Am I a Workout Wimp?
I just found FFG’s blog recently, and I’ve obsessively read the entire archive.
My question for you is about using your muscles to failure. I’m pretty new to resistance training, and I rarely experience muscle failure. Even still, even without the max-effort that brings muscle failure, I am sometimes so sore the day after a resistance workout that I have to switch up my training plans (this usually happens when I do squats/lunges one day and plan to run the next day but find my legs too sore). If I were really pushing my muscles to failure I think I might not be able to get out of bed! Am I missing a step in helping my muscles recover? Or are they just not strong enough yet? Or am I just being a wimp? Continue reading
